Once rice was meant for eating but now rice has become a part of the skincare routine.
For the last few months, I have also heard about products made from rice as Rice water, rice extract, rice cream, rice serums have suddenly started appearing everywhere.
Initially, I thought that maybe this is just another beauty trend, but when I myself started rice-based skincare, I understood that people do not like it just because of trend, especially if you like your skin to be more smooth and fresh, then rice-based products are another option to consider.
Here I have shared my experience and what I understood after using rice skincare.
What is Rice Skincare?
Rice skincare is not just about rice water, you can find products in the market like rice extract, rice water, rice cream, rice serums and moisturizers.
These products include ingredients from rice, but the formula of every product is not the same, so just by seeing that Rice is written on a product, it is not correct to assume that all will work the same.
Why people love rice for their skin?
The biggest thing about rice skincare is that it makes the skin softer and more even.
Some Rice-based products can help in retaining the moisture, due to which the skin feels softer and more fresh.
I especially like the fact that rice-based products do not exist to whiten the skin. If the skin is dry or dull then keeping it more hydrated is sometimes enough to make the face look more radiant.
Does it whiten the skin?
This is a question that came to my mind a lot in the beginning too.
Using Rice Skincare does not mean that your complexion will suddenly change. It is also wrong to take the claims of fairness too seriously.
What I find most interesting about Rice based products is the brightness and freshness, keeping the skin moisturized and smooth can make the face appear more radiant.
That is, I did not use it to change my complexion but to make my skin look more clear and fresh.
Which skin types may like rice skincare?
The experience may be different for each skin:
- Dry skin: You may like hydrated rice-based products more.
- Normal skin: Light rice based cream or serum can be a good option in my daily routine.
- Oily skin: A light, non-greasy formula may be better than a heavy cream.
- Sensitive skin: Must be cautious about fragrance and other ingredients and it is better to try it in a small quantity first.
Can rice water be used daily?
Here I will suggest a little caution.
Homemade rice water and the rice-based products available in the market are not the same.
If homemade rice water is not stored properly, it can cause itching on the skin etc. So I am not in favor of applying everything daily just because it is natural.
If you want to use rice water then it is important to maintain cleanliness, process, storage and skincare. On the other hand, a well-formulated skincare product has clearer ingredients and formulas.
Does rice skincare cause irritation?
Yes, like any skincare product, rice-based products also do not suit every person.
If the product causes itching, redness, irritation etc. then it should not be used.
My habit is that before including any new thing in the whole routine, it is better to try it gradually, especially if the skin is already sensitive then one should not start anything new with it.
How to include it in daily skincare?
If you are already using cleanser, moisturizer and sunscreen, then there is no need to buy Rice products just by seeing a trend.
A Rice-based product can be added as per your need. Such as a Light Serum or Moisturizer.
In the morning do not skip sunscreen. Rice serum or cream is not an alternative to sunscreen.
Even at night, the routine should be kept very simple and the product should be used as per the need of the skin.
Rice Water, Rice Extract & Rice Cream — What is the difference?
These three names sound similar but the usage can be completely different.
Water: You can make it at home or buy a prepared version.
Extract: Brands get it from rice and add to skincare products.
Cream: These creams may contain rice extract along with other ingredients.
Therefore, you cannot decide which product is best for you just by looking at the name. You should also check out the formula, your skin type and its other ingredients.
What was the effect of Rice Skincare for me?
For me, the best part about it was that the skin felt much softer, smoother when using rice products.
If your skin is already dull then you do not need to change your entire routine just because of a trend, but if you like light, soothing and bright looking skincare, then you may be interested in trying rice-based products.
Is Rice Better for Everyday Skincare?
I think the answer to what is better is different for every person.
For a skin that needs hydration, smoothness or a more fresh look, rice-based skincare can be an option.
However, people with specific concerns such as dark spots should not depend only on rice products.
For me, the best thing about this trend is that I see it as a skincare option rather than just a trend.
Rice is not magical but with the right product and proper routine, it can be a part of the routine that makes the skin look softer and more healthy.
