Long, thick and healthy hair is the wish of almost every girl, but with time I have realized that hair growth does not depend on any one oil or expensive product. Hair growth is a natural process affected by genes, age, hormones etc.
When I started paying more attention to the length and health of my hair, I learned that hair grows from follicles and products help the scalp in hair care, so I included habits like cleaning the scalp & hair care routine, less heat styling & loose hair styles etc.
It is my personal experience that every person’s hair needs different care.
What is hair growth?
Hair grows from follicles present in the scalp. Each follicle makes hair according to the natural cycle, it grows and then at some point the hair can also fall out.
I also explained that hair growth and hair loss are not the same thing. If the new hair grows normally but the ends of the hair keep breaking, then the length does not appear to increase.
Therefore, it is not enough to just see how fast the hair is growing but it is also important to see how it can be prevented from breakage and damage.
My Hair Growth Routine
Instead of using too many products, I chose basic hair care.
Keeping the scalp clean
Keeping the scalp clean is important for basic hair care. I wash my hair as needed and apply shampoo on the scalp. While shampooing, it is better to clean the hair gently with the fingers. There is no need to rub vigorously, as excessive rubbing can damage the hair.
Use of conditioner
Using conditioner after washing hair is part of my routine. Conditioner helps to keep the hair soft and can help in reducing the friction during combing. It is beneficial to pay attention to the ends and length of the hair because it dries accordingly.
Care of wet hair
I have also realized that wet hair needs more care. It is better to gently dry the hair after washing them instead of using force, so that unnecessary breakage does not occur.
Use of oil for Hair Growth
Using oil in hair care is a common routine and for me too, hair care is a regular part and coconut oil, olive oil or other plant-based oils may help in keeping the hair soft and away from dryness.
But there is one important reason for me that it is not necessary to consider oil as a magical way to grow hair. If there is some other reason for hair fall, then it is not necessary to solve the problem just by oiling.
There are a few things I keep in mind when using oil:
- Do not use more oil than necessary
- Say no to vigorous massage
- Avoid using very hot oil
- Stop use in case of irritation or itching
- Clean the scalp gently after oiling
Is daily scalp oiling necessary?
In my opinion, daily oiling is not necessary, every person has different hair and scalp, hence routine should also be done accordingly. If the hair is dry, then oiling once or twice a week can be enough, whereas for those who have an oily scalp, excessive oiling is not comfortable.
The real objective is not to use as much product as possible but to adopt such a routine which is suitable and easy for your hair.
Balanced Diet and Hair Growth
Diet plays a vital role in the health of hair. Along with hair care, I have also focused on my daily diet.
If you do not get enough protein and essential nutrients, hair shedding can increase. Consuming very few calories can also affect your hair health.
Fish or other protein sources, pulses, vegetables, fruits, curd and nutrients can be included in the diet.
How to protect hair from heat styling?
Use of hair dryer, straightener and heat styling can weaken the hair. Reducing heat styling helps in maintaining overall condition of hair.
Such as:
- Use of heat tools should be kept to a minimum
- If necessary, lower temperatures should be used
- Where possible, hair should be allowed to dry naturally
- Straightening and curling should not be done daily
- Wet hair should be allowed to dry naturally
Avoid Tight Hairstyles
If you want to make a tight ponytail or braid or make such a braid etc. which causes pain in the scalp, then it is better to avoid it. Such hairstyles should not be made.
My easy & simple hair care routine:
Day + Hair Care Routine
Monday + Shampoo & Conditioner
Tuesday + Less styling & less brushing
Wednesday + Light oil as required
Thursday + Scalp cleaning
Friday + Break from heat styling
Saturday + Check hair ends and breakage
Sunday + Give your hair a break and avoid tight hairstyles
This routine is just an example,
Every person can transform it according to the scalp condition, type and daily routine!
What to do if there is excessive hair fall?
Both hair fall and hair loss are closely related, but not all types of hair fall are the same. Hair fall can be caused by a variety of factors, including nutritional deficiencies, illness, stress, hormonal changes, hereditary factors, and hair damage.
If the hair suddenly starts falling too much, then blank spots start forming on the scalp, if the hairline is getting wider and going back, then it should not be treated only with home remedies, but in such a situation, it is better to consult a dermatologist to know the possible reason for hair fall.
My advice about minoxidil
Knowing about hair loss, I also heard the name of Minoxidil. It is used in some cases of hair loss but not necessary for hair loss in every person. Minoxidil and its benefits are related to continued use, so I consider it safer to take medical advice when starting with something like this.

Final Summary
My hair growth experience is that for long and healthy hair, one should not depend on oil but should adopt a proper hair routine. Clean scalp, conditioners and reducing heat-styling & soft handling etc. can help in keeping the hair in better condition. Hair growth takes time, hence consistency and patience are necessary. If hair fall is excessive, the hair is thinning rapidly and empty space is forming in the scalp, then it is important to know the reason for this.
