What is the difference between BB Cream and CC Cream?
For daily makeup, I like a cream that does not feel heavy on skin but makes the skin look clean and fresh. For this reason, I myself have used both BB cream and CC cream.
Initially I also found both to be almost similar but both may feel lighter as compared to foundation. I understood that their purpose is not exactly the same.
In simple words, I use BB cream for light coverage & quick makeup. CC Cream focuses on enhancing and balancing the tone and appearance of the skin.
But which of these two is better, I think the answer can be different for every person because the decision should be based on the daily needs of the skin & coverage.
What is BB cream?
It is a convenient intermediate between makeup and skincare. It gives lighter coverage than foundation and so some redness or uneven skin tone may still show.
I like BB cream more when I want to make my face look a little more fresh and don’t feel like applying complete foundation.
This can be a good option especially for those who
- Prefer light daily make-up
- Prefer natural make-up
- Do not feel the need for complete coverage
- Does not like heavy foundation on skin
But all BB creams are not the same, some are more moisturizing while some feel lighter, so while buying, you should definitely check the ingredients of the cream.
What is CC cream?
People use it to make skin look even and balanced. Its purpose is to make the redness and dark or uneven skin tone more balanced.
For me, CC cream is more beneficial because I don’t want heavy coverage but want more even tone of the skin.
This can be good for those who
- Have uneven skin tone
- Redness visible on the skin
- Want a lightweight, balanced option lighter than foundation
- And prefer clean and uniform make-up
Remember that the coverage of every CC cream is not the same, some are light while some can also give medium coverage.
The actual result always depends on the ingredients and formula of the product.
BB cream or CC cream for everyday makeup?
If I just want a quick natural light make-up then I will choose BB cream as a more convenient option. For general shopping outings or simple everyday make-up, a BB cream might be enough for me.
But if my aim is to make the complexion of the skin more visible and even and when there is redness, then the CC cream may seem more beneficial.
Therefore, I will not take a decision just by seeing the ingredients list or the name, whether it’s BB or CC.
Which cream can be better for dry skin?
For dry skin, a light cream with ingredients that do not let the skin feel dry can provide more comfort.
If skin is dry, then it will be easier to use moisturizer before makeup, otherwise even a light cream can give you uneven tone.
In my opinion, for people with dry skin, it is not enough to just check the name of the cream, but one should also see its ingredients & texture.
Which cream is better for normal skin?
BB cream on normal skin can make it much easier when there is no need for complete foundation.
If there is a need to show more even skin, then CC cream can also be used.
In normal skin, the difference between the two mostly depends on the desired results.
Which cream is better for oily skin?
While buying cream for oily skin, it is better to look for light and less oily texture. Creamy texture can be felt heavy on the skin, especially in summers.
Before buying cream, check whether its ingredients and texture are suitable for the skin or not.
For whom can CC cream be more beneficial?
CC cream can be more suitable for those people whose priority is to show the complexion.
If the skin has some redness or you want to see a glow, then to balance the skin color, CC cream is used to help in softening the skin, but one thing is clear from this, cream is not a cure for the skin issue, it can only make us look better during make-up.

FAQs
Can BB cream or CC cream be used daily?
Generally, if its ingredients are suitable for your skin, it should not cause any redness or irritation.
I will definitely look into a few things before using daily:
Is its texture suitable for my skin?
Does the skin feel oily or dry or uncomfortable after application?
Does it provide sun protection?
If a BB or CC cream includes sun protection properties, it should not be considered sunscreen.
Use sunscreen before makeup, especially in hot and sunny climates.
BB cream or CC cream for hot weather?
In hot weather, makeup gets worn out quickly due to heat and sweat, so I think it is important to look at its texture and ingredients instead of just looking at the name of BB or CC.
If you do not like heavy makeup in summer, then a light textured base can be more comfortable.
People with oily or combination skin should stay away from things with extremely oily texture, while people with dry skin prefer textures that do not leave the skin feeling stretched.
This means that no one BB or CC cream can be better for every person for hot weather.
Which has more coverage, BB cream or CC cream?
Do not assume that the coverage of every CC cream will be more than that of BB cream.
The coverage depends on the brand, formula and texture and ingredients. Some BB creams are very light while some give more coverage.
In this way, some CC creams are very light while some give medium coverage.
Therefore, before purchasing, instead of looking at BB or CC, one should definitely look at the coverage and texture.
Can BB cream and CC cream be used together?
Not necessary.
Applying both together does not make makeup necessarily better.
If only one cream is fulfilling your need then there is no need to apply the other.
BB cream or CC cream: which is better in my experience
I have used both and for me the result of both was not the same.
I like BB cream more at the time when I want a simple and light natural face and the best thing about it is that there is no need to apply foundation in the daily routine.
I find CC cream more beneficial when I am more focused on the look and appearance of the skin, hence I will not say that BB cream is always better than CC cream or CC cream is always better than BB cream.
Common Mistakes I Try to Avoid:
Wrong shade: Too much white or dark color does not look natural
Using too many products: Applying too much cream does not always improve the complexion but can make the foundation feel heavy.
Skipping sunscreen: Skipping sunscreen just because the makeup item in your hand has a special sun protection feature.
Skipping the preparation: Especially when there is no proper preparation on dry skin, the foundation may look uneven.
Choosing a product based on popularity: Not every famous product is suitable for every skin.
Final Suggestion
BB cream or CC cream, these products do not suit every person’s skin.
I have used both BB cream and CC cream and my biggest learning is that one should not spend money only on the ingredients of the product but it is important to know one’s skin type, coverage, texture etc.
For me, makeup base is only the one which feels comfortable on the skin and does not look heavy.
