For some time now, pimple patches have been seen a lot in beauty products. On social media, I used to see small transparent or colorful patches applied on pimples. Earlier, I found them a bit unusual because I did not understand why people were putting stickers on pimples.
Then I tried pimple patches myself. I found their idea to be simple. Instead of touching the pimple again and again, cover it with a patch. The most useful thing for me was that the patch prevented me from touching it again and again.
What are pimple patches?
Pimple patches are small adhesive patches that are applied over pimples or blemishes. They are available in different sizes, shapes and materials. Some are completely transparent while some are colorful or decorative.
I have used simple transparent patches because I find them less noticeable on the skin during the day.
Some pimple patches contain hydrocolloid material, while some products may also contain additional ingredients, so be sure to check the packaging and ingredients while purchasing.
Why I tried pimple patches?
My biggest problem was that whenever I saw a pimple on my face, my hand would naturally go towards it.
Sometimes I would touch it, sometimes I would check it again and again in the mirror.
After applying the pimple patch, I didn’t feel the need to touch the spot directly. The patch became a simple reminder for me not to touch this area unnecessarily.
I also liked that it was available in individually packed form, so I started this routine.
How to use a pimple patch?
In my experience, it is easier to keep the skin clean and dry before applying the pimple patch. I dry the area gently after face wash and then apply the patch.
It may be difficult to stick the patch properly if the skin has heavy moisturizer or cream serum, so I prefer to apply the patch on clean dry skin.
I place the patch in the center of the spot and press it gently, then leave it as per the instructions on the product packaging.
While removing the patch, I remove it slowly. Pulling the skin unnecessarily does not seem comfortable to me.
Can pimple patches be applied at night?
This is the question that I also had at first; some pimple patches are made for overnight use, but instructions may be different for each product.
I consider applying it at night because there is no issue with make-up at that time. After applying the patch, I follow my normal sleep routine.
After removing the patch in the morning, I clean the area thoroughly.
If the product is meant for overnight use, then it is better to follow the timing given on the packaging.
Can pimple patches be applied on every pimple?
I understood that a pimple patch is not necessary for every pimple; different types of patches are available in the market, and the method of use is also given on their packaging.
Simple hydrocolloid patches and patches with ingredients are not the same, so I do not find it useful to buy any patch just by looking at a trend.
If you want to pick a patch for a particular type of spot, then it is better to check the instructions and ingredients of the product first.
Can pimple patches be used under makeup?
Some pimple patches are made for daytime use and can be applied relatively thin on the skin.
I have also used transparent patches with makeup but the result depends on the thickness and finish of the patch.
If the patch is thick or the edge is clearly visible, then it can be visible even under the makeup.
That’s why for the time being, I prefer to choose a transparent & thin patch.
I apply the patch first and then see if it feels comfortable with the makeup or not.
How long should simple patches be applied?
There is no fixed time for all products; some patches are for short wear and some for overnight use.
I always check the instructions given on the packet; I don’t find it useful to keep the patch on for too long just because it seems to take too long.
If it lifts out of place, becomes heavy, or becomes uncomfortably full, it is better to replace it as per the product instructions.
What should be done after removing a pimple patch?
After removing the patch, I clean the area and continue with my normal skincare routine.
I prefer to keep a simple routine rather than applying too many products in one spot. If an area feels uncomfortable, I check the product’s instructions before re-applying the patch.
Are pimple patches for pimple marks?
This is also a big confusion. There is a difference between pimple patches and pimple marks. If old dark marks are left on the face, then a normal pimple patch is not made for them.
Some products are made separately for uneven looking areas, but it is not right to consider them as normal pimple patches.
What do I check while buying pimple patches?
First of all, I look at the purpose of the product, then I check the ingredients, size, thickness of the patch and its instructions.
If I have to do it on time, then I look for the maintenance and transparent option. For overnight, I definitely check the recommended wear time on the packaging.
For me, more important than the price is that the product should clearly explain for what purpose the patch is used and how to do it.
My Final Experience
Pimple patches are not a complicated beauty product for me. I found them useful in my routine mostly because they cover up the spots and help me to avoid touching them again and again.
I also like that they are simple and because of their small size, they can be kept in my makeup pouch, but I do not consider pimple patches as the solution to every skin problem.
Different patches have different purposes.
