Some time ago I noticed the skin of my legs and arms. From a distance, the skin looked absolutely normal, but when I looked closely, small dark dots were visible. At first I could not understand why these dots were visible. Why was the skin looking so dark?
I searched on the internet and found the name Strawberry Skin. I found this name a bit unusual, but after looking at the pictures I understood that the dots on my skin were similar. I did not want to assume that this was definitely Strawberry Skin. I started observing it in my routine.
What is strawberry skin?
Strawberry skin does not mean that the skin exactly looks like a strawberry. Generally it is for the dotted areas of the skin where small dark red dots are noticeable. This look can be more visible on the legs and arms. It can also happen on other areas of the body.
I also understood that it is not easy to decide the exact reason just by looking at the dots or similar bumps; hence I do not define the dots on my skin by just one name.
Why did I notice these dots on my skin?
Looking at my routine, the first thing that caught my attention was shaving. After shaving, sometimes instead of being smooth, the skin looked dotted. I thought it would be useful to improve the way of shaving.
That’s why I wet the skin before shaving and use shaving products gently. The reason for doing it is to move the razor carefully. I also consider the direction of the hair and avoid shaving the area again and again.
Keeping skin moisturized
When my skin was dry, the small dots and texture seemed more noticeable to me, so I included applying body moisturizer after shower in my routine.
I apply moisturizer lightly and do not rub the skin too much. For me, this was a simple body care step. Moisturizer for dryness and raw texture can be a useful part of body care.
Is scrubbing necessary?
This was the biggest confusion. Earlier I used to think that if there are dots on the legs, then scrubbing would be necessary.
Sometimes I used to rub the skin too much. Later, I kept my routine gentle. Now I do not make hard scrubbing a part of my daily routine.
If I exfoliate the body, I do so gently. I look at the condition of the skin. In my experience, clean skin and over-scrubbed skin are not the same thing.
My simple body care routine
Firstly, I avoid unnecessary scrubbing. I don’t aggressively rub the skin with a loofah or scrub.
Secondly, I avoid hurrying in shaving. If I don’t have time, I do not shave in a hurry and also avoid repeatedly using the razor on the area.
After shaving, the look of my skin is also temporarily different. Due to dryness, the texture also seems more noticeable to me, but one important thing is that every dotted skin should not automatically be called strawberry skin.
Similar looking bumps or dots can have a different reason. If there is pain on the skin, strong irritation or a long-lasting unusual change, then it is better to take advice from a dermatologist.
Final Thoughts
I heard the name of Strawberry Skin for the first time when I noticed tiny dots on my skin.
At first I thought that my skin was not being cleaned properly, but after observing my routine, I understood that cleaning is not the name of body care.
For me, simple changes like gentle shaving, regular moisturizing and avoiding unnecessary scrubbing are the only changes I can make.
If you’re noticing small dots on your legs or arms, first look at your current routine.
Shaving, dryness or other skin conditions can also give a similar appearance, so it’s not necessary to self-diagnose just by looking at the name.
In my experience, it was easier to keep body care simple instead of making it complicated. Giving time to the skin and understanding my routine was the most useful part for me.
