Almost every girl likes to see her hair straight, soft and frizz free. Especially when the hair can be managed easily even without using a straightener, a lot of time is saved.
But when both the options like keratin and X-Tenso are available, then you don’t understand which hair treatment to get done.
I myself have got both Keratin and X-Tenso done, so I can compare with my own experience.
The results of both treatments were not the same for me. The most important thing is that every hair treatment is not for every person.
What is keratin treatment?
Keratin treatment is a chemical-based hair smoothening treatment used to make hair shinier, smoother and more manageable, or used for hair that is particularly frizzy or difficult to manage.
When I got keratin done, I felt the biggest difference. My hair looked smoother and softer than before and it was easier to style it.
It is important to note that keratin is not intended to straighten hair completely, its results may vary depending on the condition of the hair and the formulation.
What is X-Tenso?
X-Tenso is a chemical hair straightening treatment. Its purpose is to straighten the hair.
I got it done when my priority was not smoothness but straighter hair.
To me, X-Tenso gave a more straight and sleek look than keratin.
Therefore, if someone’s first priority is to freshen up the hair and make the hair manageable & frizz free, then keratin can be the best for them, whereas if you want straight hair, then for that, X-Tenso can be a more relevant option.
How Keratin and X-Tenso Work?
Both treatments change the appearance and texture of hair, but their purpose is not the same.
Keratin is for softness, frizz control & smoothing and manageability. On the other hand, X-Tenso is used for hair straightening.
How long does keratin last?
The effect of keratin is not permanent, usually its result can last for about 2 to 4 months but it depends on the washing routine, condition of the hair, the products used and the formulation of the treatment.
For me, its effect faded slowly. The hair did not become the same as before but gradually started coming back to its original texture.
How long does the X-Tenso last?
The texture of hair treated with X-Tenso can remain straight for longer. When all the new hair grows out, the original texture of the hair becomes visible at the root.
After X-Tenso the entire hair does not remain straight forever. It is important to understand the treated length and new roots.
Difference in keratin vs X-Tenso
If I talk about my experience, I would compare it in simple words like this:
Keratin:
- There is more focus on smoothness and frizz control
- Hair feels soft and manageable
- There can be more natural movement in the hair
- The result is temporary
X-Tenso:
- There is more focus on straightening
- Hair looks more straight and sleek
- Treated lengths can remain straight for a longer time
- After new hair grows, the root may have to be managed differently
Which treatment straightens hair more?
If we talk about straightness only, then X-Tenso was way ahead.
So if your aim is straight hair then X-Tenso may be a more convenient option.
Which treatment is better for shiny & smooth hair?
Here I liked the result of keratin more; after keratin my hair became softer and smoother.
It also depends on the current condition of hair, hair wash routine and heat styling.
Is keratin better for frizzy hair?
If your hair is frizzy and difficult to manage, then keratin can be a good option.
The best thing about keratin for me was that my hair became more controlled and manageable. There is no need to straighten it too much on a daily basis.
Which treatment is better for damaged hair?
If there is already a lot of chemical damage or hair is bleached, then treatment should not be done just with the thought that hair will become healthy.
Keratin or X-Tenso do not magically repair damaged hair. After treatment, they may appear smoother but the existing damage does not go away.
I think it is more important to understand the condition of your hair before treatment.
How to care for hair after keratin and X-Tenso?
Maintenance after keratin helps in maintaining the results for a longer time. In my experience, gentle hair care and appropriate shampoo are useful. Avoiding excessive heat is useful. Repeatedly applying high heat to the hair or using harsh products can spoil the effect of the treatment.
The most important thing is that even after getting keratin done, the hair still needs regular care.
Hair care after X-Tenso
Maintenance after X-Tenso is more important for me because along with straightened length, I also have to manage new roots.
The new hair at the root grows back with its original texture while the treated lengths may remain straighter, so you may notice a difference in the two textures over time.
What I have noticed is that one should not select the treatment just by looking at the before-and-after pictures of salons, one should also look at the current condition of one’s hair and the desired result.
Can hair color be done after treatment?
Hair color and chemical straightening should not be casually combined as both treatments can put chemical stress on the hair.
If you also want to get your hair colored, then first ask your stylist about the appropriate timing and gap, especially in case of bleach or lightening treatment, more precaution is necessary.
My Decision: Keratin or X-Tenso?
Since I have had both Keratin & X-Tenso done myself, the question for me is not just which treatment is better but what kind of results you want from your hair?
If you want shiny, smooth and soft looks and want to avoid frizz, then keratin can be the best.
But if your first priority is straight hair & you want straight finish, then X-Tenso would be the best option for you.
For me, both treatments had their own benefits; Keratin made my hair smoother and more manageable while X-Tenso made it straighter.
Therefore, before choosing the treatment, do not follow trends, do check the condition of your hair, results and future maintenance of your hair.
