Jelly Masks: Why Are They Trending?

Nowadays many new things are trending in the world of skincare and one of them is Jelly Mask.

When I heard the name of jelly mask for the first time, I also thought that maybe it would be like a normal face mask, but when I tried it, the first thing I found interesting was its texture.

This mask is a little different from the normal cream mask or sheet mask; it has a jelly-like texture which makes it different from the rest.

What is a jelly mask?

Jelly Mask is a skincare mask which is usually soft, fine and gel like in texture. It is applied on the face and left on the skin for some time. According to the product, it can be washed off later. Sometimes it is left on the skin.

Jelly masks are available in different types. Some are available with simple formulas while some have different skincare ingredients added.

For me, the most interesting part of it was its texture. When applied on the face, it felt like a soft and cool layer.

Why are Jelly Masks trending?

I think the reason for the trend of jelly masks is also due to social media where different textures of skincare products and application videos are seen a lot. The jelly texture is visible differently on the camera too and it feels satisfying to see the application from the skincare video.

Apart from this, people sometimes like to add masks to their normal skin routine. Jelly mask is also an option of this type.

I had also tried it earlier out of curiosity, I wanted to see how different it is from normal face masks.

How does Jelly Mask feel on the Skin?

Jelly mask is usually soft, smooth and thick in texture. When I applied this on the face, I found its texture completely different from sheet mask. Sheet mask is like a fabric layer on the face whereas jelly mask is applied directly on the skin.

Some jelly masks can give cooling and freshness on the skin but this feeling depends on the product’s formula and temperature. I personally found its soft texture interesting, especially when I want to do something new in my skincare routine.

How to use a Jelly Mask?

Before applying the jelly mask, I clean my face, after that I apply the required amount of mask on the face. Instead of applying it very close to the eyes & lips, I avoid that area and then follow the instructions given on the packaging of the product.

The formula of every mask is different, so it is important to read the instructions. After the recommended time, if the mask is meant to be washed off, that is normal. I find it more comfortable to clean my face softly instead of rubbing it.

If washing the mask is not required, I follow the instructions.

Jelly Mask vs Sheet Mask

There is a difference between jelly mask and sheet mask; the texture and application of both are also different.

Jelly mask:

It is a jelly-like texture and is applied directly to the face.

Sheet mask:

It’s a thin sheet that is placed on the face.

In jelly mask, you can control the quantity of the product yourself, whereas sheet mask is in the form of a ready-made sheet.

In my experience, I found the jelly mask application a bit different and fun, whereas in sheet mask, it is quick and simple to do.

For me, it is not necessary to say that one is better than the other, because both depend on the experience and the formula of the product.

Things to Check Before Using a Jelly Mask

Before using a jelly mask, I check some basic things.

First of all, I check the ingredients of the product. If the skin cannot tolerate any ingredient or fragrance, then it may be better to avoid the product.

I also read the instructions given on the packaging, especially how long to keep the mask on the face and whether to wash it or not. If I am using the product for the first time, then I would start using it with a small amount. If there is discomfort in doing it, then I would remove the product.

My Experience with Jelly Mask

I tried it for the first time and found its texture most interesting. In comparison to normal cream or masks, its texture seemed different to me. I also liked that sometimes adding a mask to my skin routine makes the routine feel a bit relaxing, but I do not consider a mask as a replacement for my daily skincare.

In my experience, the result of skincare products is not the same for every person, so I always check the instructions before using any product.

Final Thoughts

Jelly Masks seem like an interesting skincare friend to me, especially if you like trying new textures and different skincare products. As an extra step of the routine, it is understandable, but not a replacement for a regular skincare product.
